Business Meeting  Minutes  October 8, 2014

Minutes: The September business minutes were approved. Approval of the June minutes was tabled.

Treasurer’s Report:  On hand balance was updated.

Correspondence: We received a flyer from YMCA for senior women “Aging in Place”, a flyer from YMCA about shelter/violence.  The Vice President spoke about their new approach to sheltering: man leaves the home and the woman/children stay. A letter received from SIA President “Poco” about the convention in Vancouver BC and the new ‘Live Your Dream’ and club giving.

Old Business:
Treasurer is working on setting up the Amazon Smile account. It is just about ready for us to sign up.

Fundraising updates

Holiday Wreath:  Sell Sell Sell! turn in date is 4-5th of November.
Basket-Auction/wine tasting: Committee is working on reservations for the Kenton Firehouse March 15th 2015. The Delta House across from Peninsula Park as a possible venue.
Silpada Party is November 9th 1-3 pm
Toyama 40th Anniversary: Secretary has made a card and passed it around for the members to sign. Included will be a $500 cashiers check.
SAVE: Shelters would like teen gift cards  by November 1. $200 from SIPN
SOLT: Our Director spoke about the club’s relationship with Toyama. 
Live Your Dream (newWOA) update: The chair reported no applications received yet. 7 colleges and 5 trade schools have been sent information and applications.
Program Meeting: It was suggested that our corresponding secretary speak about her recent visit to Amsterdam

New Business: 

Induction: a new member was inducted.   Welcome!
President’s challenge: Community of Hope needs blankets/bedding for October.

Announcements:  

One of our members broke her hip on Monday.
MOW spaghetti dinner this Saturday at 5pm. Tickets $6
Community Of Hope fundraiser Oct 17th
Fifth Wednesday is Oct 29th. Suggestions?

Board  Minutes  October 1, 2014

Meeting called to order at 6:02 pm at Lung Fung restaurant.

Minutes: Board approved the September Board meeting minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Bank balance was updated.

Correspondence: Received a letter from SIA President “Poco” about the convention in Vancouver BC and the new ‘Live Your Dream’ and club giving and a flyer from YMCA for senior women “Aging in Place”.

SOLT: next topic will be Toyama

New Business: 

President Challenge:  President chose Community of Hope as her President’s Challenge. It was suggested the wish list be put on the Blog and included in every email.
SAVE: gift cards for teens: shelters want gift cards by Nov. 1. SIPN will give $200
‘Battle of the Badges” a possible fundraiser with the Lake Oswego/West Linn club. August 2015
District 2 Meeting: Bend Oct 17-19  We will do a Tell&Sell table.
Christmas Party: where? when?
New Member:  -Preparations and assignment made for inducting our new member at the next Business meeting. 
Donation seeking letter: President will research a standard donation letter.

Announcements: 
District 2 Meeting: Bend Oct 17-19 : we will do a Tell&Sell table. 
Hillsboro SI club has disbanded. 
Other items: Our club will send a sympathy card to Janis for her recent loss. October is Preventing Domestic Violence month.

Business Meeting Minutes  September 10, 2014

Minutes:  The August minutes were approved.

Treasurers Report:  On hand balance was updated.

Correspondence:  Downtown club 18th annual dinner and auction will be Oct 4, 5 pm - 9 pm at the Airport Sheraton. Invitation received from our sister club of Toyama Japan to attend their 40th anniversary celebration. Motion approved to send a cash gift to their club.  Announcement of SI Lake Oswego's Harvest Fest, Sep 9 - 13, $10 at the gate. 

Old Business:  Work will start on qualifying SIPN for "Smile Amazon" so that purchases may earn cash for the club. By consensus meetings will start with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a inspirational reading by the President. Wreath and greenery items will be retailed at the same prices as last year.  The wine tasting / basket auction event will use donated food platters to keep expenses down.

New Business:  Treasurer presented the board approved budget for 2014-15. After discussion it was approved. A bunco party may be held in January. A card and donations were given to our waitress at Lung Fung who is getting married. A Silpada party has been scheduled for November. 

Announcements:  It was reported that our oldest member (100 years young!) is doing very well!  She will be 101 on January 13.

Board  Minutes  September 3, 2014

Minutes: June meeting minutes and August minutes were read and approved as written 

Correspondence: SI Portland (downtown club)18th Annual Dinner&Auction is 10/4/2014 5-9pm at the Sheraton Airport Hotel, and we have received an invitation to Toyama’s 40th Anniversary and an announcement from SI LOWL Harvest Fest 9-13 2014  $10.

New Business: 
Budget committee presented the proposed budget worksheet for discussion. Some changes were: WOA-Live your Dream increased by $500 to $1500, some other income events were dropped including the garage sale.  Board discussed that even when members absorb costs of events, they should advise the Treasurer of those costs for accurate planning at the next budget discussion.

Board recommended the budget be presented to the General Membership on Sept 11.

Committee Reports: Wreath Fundraiser - Nov. 7th is the turn in date for all the orders.  Flyer information, other details will be made available this month. The pricing will be the same as last year. Delivery date will probably be Nov. 26th, at a designated location. See the website calendar.  Selling early will give us a jump start on the competitors.

Wine Tasting /Basket Auction: Contact has been made with the Kenton Firehouse. As an non-profit we qualify for a rental rate of $30 an hour, wtih a $250 refundable deposit.

SOLT: Determined that reports will be given at the business meeting only. Sep.: SI-101

Blog: a condensed version of the minutes, no names, no financials will be posted.

District 2 Meeting: Bend Oct 17-19  We will do a Tell&Sell table.

Announcements: Next Board meeting will be at the Vice President's home

Business Meeting  August 13, 2014

Minutes:  The July minutes were deemed lost.

Treasurers Report:  Fireworks deposit was made.

Correspondence:  Received thank you letters from TLC-TNT and Domestic Violence Resource Center, a request for funds from Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation and YWCA, a newsletter from Rose Haven and a SIA nominating form for the fundraising council. CT12 reporting to State of Oregon forms received.

Old Business:  Budget and Audit committee established, reports due next business meeting.  Work will start on qualifying SIPN for "Smile Amazon" so that purchases may earn cash for the club.  Website will have information available for Live Your Dream applicants, including easy linkage to fill out application on line.

New Business:  Members requested to ask permission to photograph one another. Chair selected for Wreath & Greenery fund raiser. Discussed basket auction, combine with wine fund raiser, use new location and limited number of baskets, perhaps generate our own food platters instead of purchasing from vendor. Chair selected for Live Your Dream Award.  SOLT presentation about Federation Meeting in Vancouver BC.  1315 clubs, 1271 in good standing. Next meeting will be in Orlando Florida at Disneyworld.  Discussed flag salute and Soroptimist Grace, decided flag salute will be retained. Some discussion about recruiting 40-50 year old candidates for SIPN.

Announcements:  District 2 meeting time and place discussed (see calendar page).  Next meeting September 10.

Board Minutes August 7, 2014

Minutes:  The July minutes were deemed lost. 

Treasurers Report:  Income from the fireworks stand was received, the year end budget and earnings were provided and discussed.

Correspondence:  Received thank you letters from TLC-TNT and Domestic Violence Resource Center, a request for funds from Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation and YWCA, a newsletter from Rose Haven and a SIA nominating form for the fundraising council.

Old Business:  A budget committee was formed and they will also audit for last year.

New Business:  Approved a person to chair the Wreath & Greenery fund raiser, discussed basket sale / auction to be coupled with wine tasting fund raiser.  Approved member to manage Live Your Dream award, discussed hiring a researcher to investigate "Dream It - Be It" consensus - money better spent on Roosevelt Scholarship.  Member to give SOLT at each general meeting for 5 minutes.  Discussion to eliminate Flag Salute and Soroptimist Grace, President will check with SIA for guidance. Discussed club diversity, we need to target younger adults.

Announcements:  Selected next meeting place and time, noted District 2 meeting in Bend.
